Lakers Drop SUNYAC Contest With Potsdam

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team lost to the Potsdam Bears—2-1—in a conference battle on Saturday at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego is now 3-8 overall and 0-4 in the SUNYAC on the season, while the Bears improve to 6-3-1 and 1-2-0.

The contest was defined by a couple of relatively early goals in both halves. Potsdam found the net five minutes into the game and just 43 seconds into the second half.

Oswego's goal came 19 minutes into the first half of the game when Alex Sestak and Jason Hayes found a connection. The duo ran side-by-side down the field with Hayes leading ever-so-slightly. Hayes then crossed the ball out of the goalie's reach to Sestak who put just enough on the ball to send it in for the score.

Throughout the middle part of the contest, both teams played a physical style of keep-away, not allowing either to gain an advantage. Oswego tallied 14 shots in the match and also earned 11 corner kicks.

Jon Runge returned to the goal after not making an appearance during Friday's contest. The senior recorded three saves in the 90 minutes between the posts.

Men's soccer will return to action for more conference play when it hosts Buffalo State at 3 p.m. on Friday.
