OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team fell to the Buffalo State Bengals on Friday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego's 2-1 loss makes them 3-9-0 overall and 0-5-0, while the Bengals improve to 8-3-1 and 3-1-0.
Aggressive play on both defenses kept this contest a low-scoring one. Buffalo State's Bass Sarr tallied the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 75
th minute. While both Lakers and Bengals battled near the goal, Oswego was called for a foul, which led to the scoring opportunity.
After allowing a goal at the 26:33 mark, Oswego got on the board a few minutes into the second half. With the ball to the far side of the Buffalo State goal,
Bernard Osei passed a ball toward the base line. It was then corralled by
Harrison Rieber and flicked back in front of the goal to a waiting
Jason Hayes, who finished the job and tallied the score.
Rieber and Hayes combined for four shots on the afternoon with two coming on-goal. Overall Oswego and Buffalo State both took 11 shots in the contest.
In the net,
Jon Runge collected two saves in the loss.
Oswego will return to action on Saturday afternoon for another conference match against the Fredonia Blue Devils. Action will begin at 1 p.m. at Laker Turf Stadium.
