OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team dropped a nonconference contest to the St. Lawrence Saints on Wednesday evening. The 3-1 (28-26, 18-25, 21-25, 11-25) loss now puts the Lakers at 12-9 on the year, while the Saints improve to 9-15.
It was a match of runs throughout with Oswego starting it off in the first set. After St. Lawrence scored to make it even at 1-1, the Lakers went on to win five-straight points before the Saints answered with a 7-0 run of their own. The rest of the set went back and forth until it was 16-15 in favor of the visiting team and Oswego won five points in a row, anchored by two service aces from
Lindsey Champitto.
Oswego would go on to take the first set in extra points by a tally of 28-26. Much of the rest of the match followed a similar blueprint with both sides putting together multi-point rallies. In the third set, the Lakers put together a streak of eight-straight points; meanwhile in the fourth the Saints rallied for 10 in a row.
Ariel Murawski (10),
Isabella Winklestine (8) and
Emma Moriarty (8) led the Lakers offensively by recording 26 of the squad's 41 kills. Murawski also led the team in blocks with six, while Moriarty had a match-high 26 digs.
Assisting duties were split four-ways with the primary numbers coming from
Lauren Edwards (19) and Champitto (12). Libero
Jessica Long tallied four and
Julia Flohr served up one.
Volleyball will return to action over the weekend with a couple of matches at the Canton Invite. First at noon on Saturday, the Lakers will play Lebanon Valley before taking on the host Kangaroos immediately after.
