OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team earned a pivotal 2-1 conference victory over Brockport at Laker Soccer Field on Friday afternoon. Oswego improves to 6-4-3 overall and 3-3-1 in the SUNYAC while the Golden Eagles drop to 6-5-1, 2-4-0.
All the scoring action happened in the first 45 minutes, with Brockport starting the tallying. At 9:16, Chelsea Stahl found Maddie Sinclare in the box with Sinclare lifting a shot just out of reach of a diving
Melissa Siegfried.
Oswego answered the challenge over the final 35 minutes, with the defense allowing just one shot on target which came from way outside the 18-yard box. The offense was kick-started at 30:34 by
Emma Geyer's solo attack. Geyer was located even with the far post and ripped a shot that was blocked by a Brockport defender. The junior did not waiver, however, recovering the rebound and firing another attempt, this time finding its way over the goal line to even the score.
Less than four minutes later,
Audrey Burbidge gave Oswego its first lead of the day with her fourth goal of the season and eventual game-winner. Sophomore
Chloe Lonergan took a free-kick just inside of the mid-field line, lofting the ball to the far post, finding Burbidge for the notch at 34:11.
Melissa Siegfried played all 90 minutes in net, stopping one shot in the first half and two in the second for a three-save total.
Oswego will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts conference foe Geneseo.
