Lakers Clinch Playoff Spot With Win Vs. Cortland

SUNYAC BRACKET

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team defeated the Cortland Red Dragons,—2-1—clinching a playoff spot in the SUNYAC Championship. Oswego's conference record improves to 4-3-2, while its overall record goes to 7-4-4. Cortland falls to 8-7 overall and 4-5 in the SUNYAC.

In the SUNYAC Championship, beginning on Saturday, the Lakers have earned the No. 5 seed and will travel to face the fourth-seeded Plattsburgh Cardinals in the single-elimination tournament.

Forty-eight seconds into the game, Alexa Restante struck for Oswego to give the Lakers the early lead beneath the rain. Emma Geyer found her teammate with a great pass, providing Restante with a wide-open shooting lane.

Oswego thoroughly dominated the game on defense throughout the first half. It wasn't until the 42nd minute of the contest that Cortland was able to take a shot-on-goal. This shot was saved by goalie Melissa Siegfried who went on to make three more stops.

In the 25th minute, Restante once again made her precense felt. Shortly after Lindsay Jones tallied a shot-on-goal, which was saved, Restante stole the ball from a Cortland player. With another open lane, she was able to catch the goalkeeper flat-footed and sent the ball on a line into the back of the net.

The Lakers will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon for a nonconference contest with Hamilton College.
