PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The fifth-seeded Oswego State women's soccer team fell 2-0 to host and fourth-seeded Plattsburgh in the opening round of the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Cardinals' Field House Soccer Complex. Oswego wraps the season with a 7-6-4 mark while Plattsburgh advances to the semifinals of the conference tournament at 11-8-0.
In the fifth minute, the Cardinals recorded all it would need with an Ashlie Guiness tally off a corner kick. The 1-0 Plattsburgh advantage would last through the halftime until Madeline Saccocio tacked on an insurance goal at 74:30, putting the contest out of the Lakers' reach.
Senior Laker goaltender
Melissa Siegfried made five stops in the tilt, bringing her career total to 138, just one shy of the program's top 10. Her career goals-against average of 1.34 takes seventh all-time in Oswego history while the goalie's 15 wins ranks fifth. Siegfried also accumulated eight shutouts over her three-year career, placing her in a three-way tie in that category in the Laker record books.
Oswego managed four shots-on-goal over the afternoon, with
Leslie Goldman,
Chloe Lonergan,
Sarah Grupp and
Emma Geyer each recording one.
The Lakers earned the fourth seed in the league championship by ending the SUNYAC schedule with a 4-3-2 record. Their four conference victories is the second-most for Oswego since the turn of the decade and its most since the 2013 squad collected five.
