OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's swimming and diving team defeated Alfred State College by a score of 167-122 on Saturday afternoon at Laker Pool. Oswego improves to 2-3 on the year, while Alfred falls to 1-1.
Oswego dominated this meet throughout and earned first place finishes in 11-of-14 individual events led by
Alex Davie,
Daniel Rodriguez,
Jay Choi and
Luke Snyder, who each recorded two solo victories.
Starting off the day, the 'A' and 'B' teams in the 200-yard medley relay matched their respective seeds and placed first and second with times of 1:44.49 and 1:45.59, respectively. Later on in the 200-yard free relay, the Lakers earned another first-place finish in 1:32.54.
Davie's two solo wins came in the short events. In the 50-yard free sprint, the freshman clocked 22.61 before returning just minutes later to earn the victory in the 100-yard freestyle. Davie's splits in the event were 24.05 and 26.48, which led to his winning time of 50.53.
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Daniel Rodriguez turned in an impressive performance, winning by over 10 seconds as he touched the wall in 1:50.06. He completed his swimming toward the end of competition with a top-finish in the 400-yard IM.
Choi swam both editions of the butterfly—the 100-yard and 200-yard—earning wins. In the 200-yard version, which swims first, the sophomore clocked 2:09.51 to win by nearly 15 seconds. Returning later, he swam the half of the earlier and dominated again, winning by nearly four seconds.
Elsewhere impressive performances came from
James Dillon and
Jacob Mullett in the long-distance 1000-yard freestyle. The two swimmers touched in at 11:08.27 and 11:28.66, respectively to earn first and second.
Luke Snyder continued to perform strongly in both diving events, as he scored 249.95 in the 3-meter dive and then a 255.90 in the short-board 1-meter dive.
Oswego returns to the pool for a dual meet with Brockport at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
