ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team fell to the Oneonta Red Dragons, 61-51, on Tuesday. Oswego is now 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in the conference; Oneonta improves to 5-2 and 2-1.
Oswego and Oneonta both jumped out to a hot start in the contest, but the Red Dragons were able to keep it going longer. After Oneonta took a 10-point halftime lead, the Lakers were not able to muster enough to get back in the game.
Courtney Ameele led Oswego in scoring with 14, while being followed closely by
Mary Mazzella, who tallied 11. Ameele added three 3-pointers, while recording two rebounds and two assists each.
Despite the final score ending up the way it did, the Lakers won the turnover battle (11-16). They also out-blocked the Red Dragons (2-1) and collected more steals (8-2).
Women's basketball returns to action on Friday evening for a SUNYAC battle with the Fredonia Blue Devils. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
