Double-Doubles Help Down Bears on the Road

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team never trailed and withstood a comeback effort en route to a 62-55 victory at Potsdam on Friday evening. Oswego improves to 4-18 overall and 2-13 in the SUNYAC while the Bears drop to 1-20, 0-14.

A pair of double-doubles paced the Lakers on the night. The first double-double came from Zana Dillard, who had a game-high 10 rebounds along with 13 points and career-high tying three blocks. Following in her teammates footsteps, Mary Mazzella tied a season-high with 10 boards to complement 12 points. The junior found time to find her fellow Lakers as well, racking up a team-high six assists.

Senior Tayler Sorell made her imprint on the contest as well, notching a team-high 15 points, including going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. Also chipping in was Nicole SantaMaria, who tied a career-high with four steals in addition to four points and six rebounds.

The Lakers were efficient from the floor as a team, shooting 39.2% (20-for-51), their second-best percentage of the year. Conversely, Oswego held the Bears to just 33.8% (22-for-65) from the field.

Oswego led by as many as 10 in the contest, coming in the second quarter, eventually taking an eight-point advantage, 44-36, into the break. The Lakers withstood an 18-11 deficit in the third quarter, holding on to a one-point edge heading into the final 10-minute period. A 17-11 fourth quarter, in favor of the Lakers, proved to be the difference.

Women's basketball will return to the hardwood at 2 p.m. on Saturday when it completes its SUNYAC weekend with a battle at Plattsburgh.
