Lakers Shutout No. 4 Bengals; Advance to Semis

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The No. 5 Oswego State women's ice hockey team upset fourth-seeded Buffalo State 5-0 on the road Saturday afternoon, earning them a spot in the ECAC West semifinal. Oswego's record improves to 12-10-4 on the year while the Bengals conclude their season with a record of 18-8-0.

Oswego took an almost instant lead over Buffalo State, scoring a power-play goal at the just 1:13 into the first period. Just seven seconds in, the Bengals' Erin Gehen took a hooking called followed by another Buffalo State penalty 28 seconds later thus giving the Lakers a 5-on-3. Alli Ullrich took advantage as she received a pass from Olivia Ellis and put it past the netminder.

The defense continued to impress as senior blue-liner Jayme McCreary nabbed her first goal of her career with 3:54 left in the period. Ellis then tacked on one more before the intermission to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead.

Ellis would go on to collect another goal in the second period to increase her point total to three on the day. Andrea Noss recorded the final Laker goal, scoring short-handed on an empty net.

Tori Trovato got the shutout for Oswego, turning aside all 32 of the Bengal shots.

As a team, Oswego denied Buffalo State all five of its power-play chances and controlled 30 of the 55 puck drops.

Women's ice hockey will now face top-seeded Plattsburgh on Saturday at Ronald B. Stafford Arena for the semifinal contest.
