Laker Scoring Runs Ground Hawks

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team defeated Hartwick College 7-4 Wednesday evening at Laker Turf Stadium. With the win, Oswego improves to 2-2 on the season while the Hawks fall to 1-3.

It was a game of runs for the Lakers, commencing with a James Lennon goal with 2:15 left in the first period. The Lakers would up their lead to 3-0 by halftime, thanks to two second period goals from Ryan Jelen.

Hartwick tied it back up in the third though, scoring three unanswered, but the Lakers never looked defeated. With 10:47 left in regulation, Adam Burlew secured his third of the season, only to follow up with his fourth 56 seconds later.

Jarrod Wilkom increased the Laker lead, notching his first in a Laker uniform at the 2:07 mark. Tom Hebert then collected Oswego's final tally on a quick shot off a ground ball late in the stanza. The Hawks would score one with just over a minute left, but Oswego prevailed with a 7-4 victory.

Wyatt Russo was settled in between the pipes for the Lakers all 60 minutes, turning aside 11 Hartwick shots.

At the faceoff 'X', Chase Izyk was in charge, taking all fifteen faceoffs and winning nine of them.

The Lakers showed a gritty team effort to get loose balls, scooping up 11 more than their opponent (38), led by Izyk who had seven and Zach Anderson who claimed four. Six other Lakers recorded three on the day.

Men's lacrosse will resume action at 12 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College.
