Game Recap: Softball |

Day Two Split Keeps Softball at .500

CLERMONT, Fla, - The Oswego State softball team finished its second day of the Spring Trip much like the first, dropping its first match up before winning the second. The Lakers fell 10-2 in five innings to Western Connecticut State University before defeating Thomas University 3-1 in the second game of the double header. With today's results, the Lakers remain at .500 (2-2) on the year.

GAME 1:
After allowing up three runs through the first three innings, the Lakers were able to get themselves on the board in the top of the fourth. With Tori Trovato getting on to first by walk, Jacquie Porreca advanced her to second with a single. Melanie Klauser then drove the senior in with a line drive single into left field. The Colonials answered back quickly though, tacking on seven in the bottom of the frame.

Oswego made a comeback effort in the fifth as Ashley Lyman knocked in Claire Hewitt, but Western Connecticut held off the attempt.

Brittney Sears manned the rubber for 3.1 innings, striking out five. She was relieved by Alexis Nasca who punched out one of her own.

GAME 2:
The Lakers let up a single run early in the second, but that was all Oswego gave up to the Terriers. The squad rallied in the bottom of that frame to take the lead. Nasca singled to start the inning, advancing to second after Melissa Mulvaney got walked. Hewitt then hit a sacrifice fly into right field to get Nasca to third. That's when Klauser mimicked her plate appearance in game one, hitting an RBI single. That at bat was then followed by a Katie Heselden walk and an Erin Sweeney walk which scored Oswego's second run.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Oswego earned its final run beginning with a Trovato triple that led off the inning. She would then be waived in on a Porreca sacrifice fly.

Mulvaney was featured in the defensive play of the game, laying out at full length to snag a grounder towards second base. The junior was then able to whip the ball to first while sitting down to secure the second out of the sixth inning.

Alexis Nasca started the game for the Lakers, picking up six strikeouts en route to her first win of the year. Sears took her place in the sixth inning, picking up two punchouts in the final two frames.

Softball will get its first break of the trip on Tuesday before playing at 11 a.m. on Wednesday against Union College. The team will then face Wellesley College in the second game of the doubleheader.
