ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team opened up its SUNYAC slate with a win Saturday afternoon, cruising to an 18-11 victory. With the win, the Lakers extend their win streak to five in a row, posting a 5-1 overall record (1-0 SUNYAC). Oneonta moves to 3-5 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.
Oswego opened up the game by scoring four unanswered from four different players in the first 5:10.
Emily Lange,
Teresa Shattuck,
Lindsey Eggers and
Gemma O'Kane all tallied one goal on the score sheet. The Lakers would record seven more before the halftime whistle, including three from
Esther Gabriel, and carry an 11-4 lead into the locker room.
The second half looked much like the second, with Oswego able to tack on seven more and holding the Red Dragons to only seven as well.
Gabriel and T. Shattuck finished the game tied for most points on the field with six each. Adding to the offense was Lange who nabbed five goals and one assist as well as
Briana Kimble and O'Kane who each ended with four points.
Angela Ponto earned another win between the pipes for the Lakers, turning aside six Red Dragon shots two groundballs.
As a team, the Lakers controlled 19 of the 31 draws, including a season-high ten from Gabriel.
Women's lacrosse will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as the team will battle New Paltz in an away contest.
