Lakers Fall Twice To Top Team On Senior Day

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The nationally-ranked Oswego State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the No. 1 Cortland Red Dragons on Saturday afternoon. With the losses, the Lakers fall to 25-7 and 10-5 in the SUNYAC while Cortland improved to 31-5 and 13-4.

Game One: Cortland 3, Oswego 1

After Brian Hamilton was honored as one of the seven graduating seniors on the Oswego team, he got the contest started with a base hit into right field. The Liverpool, N.Y. native finished with three hits overall on the day and scored a run.

Robert Donnelly started on the mound for the Lakers and pitched a very solid game from the bump despite taking the loss. The sophomore did not allow a hit through the first three innings and in total surrendered two throughout. Rounding out his line, Donnelly allowed one earned run while striking out four.

Jordan Giller drove in the Lakers only run with a double down the left-field to drive in Eric Hamilton after he singled to third earlier on. The senior Toronto, Ontario native completed his day with another hit.

Zach Kollar, Mike Dellicarri, Myles Kutscher and Wes Randall also earned hits in the game for Oswego.

Game Two: Cortland 7, Oswego 2

This contest was a pitching duel throughout the main part of the game before the No. 1 Red Dragons scored in the ninth to earn the victory.

Tim Cronin pitched six innings for the Lakers and allowed just one earned while striking out five; he was tagged with a no decision.

E. Hamilton drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning of the game before Kutscher singled through the left side to drive in another.

Aside from collecting a hit in the second game, Donnelly also stole a base. Randall also recorded a hit in this game as well.

Andrew Morano came out of the pen and took the loss, despite pitching effectively for 2.1 innings and striking out three Red Dragon batters. Mickey Putillo closed out the game in terms of pitching by striking out two batters.

The No. 3/4 Lakers will return to action on Tuesday with a home game against the Ithaca College Bombers beginning at 4 p.m.
