OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The No. 10/11 Oswego State baseball team defeated the St. Lawrence Saints 15-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers record now stands at 26-7 on the year, while St. Lawrence falls to 12-19.
In the opening inning, Brian Hamilton sparked the Laker offense with an RBI-single. This drove in Wes Randall who got on earlier via a base hit and then stole second; he would finish with three hits and two runs scored. Later on in the first inning, Oswego benefitted from two errors to score two more runs.
The Lakers scored the bulk of their runs (5) in the fourth, after getting one apiece in the second and third frames. Of the five hits off friendly bats, Collin Thompson (1), Eric Hamilton (1) and Jordan Giller (2) each collected runs batted in.
Oswego's offense continued to click, showing why the team is nationally ranked, as it scored five more runs in the following two innings. As part of the scoring John Barnes came off the bench and slapped a single, which hopped over the shortstop's head to score Giller.
Matthew Deblasio joined in on the action with an RBI-single of his own, which scored Matt Capobianco. The senior singled to right-center field earlier on in the frame.
Zach Whelan was able to finish off Barnes time on the base paths with a single to left field, which scored the sophomore.
Miles Kelly earned his sixth win (6-1) of the season as he threw five innings from the mound. The senior allowed just one earned run on three hits and also collected a strikeout.
Nathan Boughton, Andy Stuart, Matt Zakala, and Ryan Matthews combined to finish the game out of the pen, each throwing an inning. The pitchers allowed three hits total between them over the final four frames.
Oswego will travel south to Oneonta next for a weekend set with the Red Dragons beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. These games will wrap up conference play and determine the seeds of next weekend's SUNYAC Championship.
