MANSFIELD, Conn. – The second-seeded Oswego State baseball team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 3 Tufts University – the nation's 21st ranked team – on the second day of the NCAA Division III New England Regional on Thursday night at Eastern Connecticut State University's Eastern Stadium. Oswego – who is ranked seventh nationally – will now play an elimination game against top-seeded Wheaton College at 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
Tim Cronin had a stellar start for the Lakers, throwing seven innings. The junior allowed just five hits in the outing, leading to only two runs while striking out four. Senior
Cody LaFlamme threw the final inning, taking down the side in order.
At the plate, Oswego's 1-2-3 hitters accounted for the team's three hits.
Wes Randall,
Brian Hamilton and
Eric Hamilton all singled while B. Hamilton also reached on a walk.
Zach Kollar,
John Barnes and
Jordan Giller joined B. Hamilton with one base-on-balls each.
Eli Holton also made it down the first base line when he was struck in the head by a pitch in his pinch-hit at-bat in the seventh.
Oswego was undone in the third inning, when the Jumbos led off with a single. Cronin recovered with a strikeout, but then surrendered a single, RBI double, a walk and a sacrifice fly to give Tufts its only two runs of the night.
