OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's tennis team fell 8-1 to the Cortland Red Dragons on Thursday at the Romney Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Lakers start the year 0-1 and Cortland begins its slate at 1-0.
After dropping all three doubles matches and the first three singles matches, the Lakers got on the board.
Giovanna Saulle battled her counterpart through three sets after dropping the first 7-5. She got the break in the second set to secure a 6-4 frame win and then continued through the third-set super-tiebreak winning 10-3.
Allie Foland dropped the first set 6-0, but stayed competitive and hung with the opponent before dropping a close second set 6-4.
The Lakers will return to the courts on Friday for a match at SUNYAC West foe Geneseo beginning at 4 p.m.
