CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team downed host SUNY Canton 1-0 in thrilling overtime action. Oswego's victory gets the Lakers back to .500 on the year at 3-3 while the Kangaroos fall to 0-5-1.
Senior
Mitch Brickman would break the scoreless tie just 5:07 into the first overtime period. The captain was chosen to take a Laker corner kick and capitalized on the opportunity. Brickman curled a ball around the post and caused confusion amongst the Kangaroo defense. In the chaos in front of the net, a Canton defender failed a clear attempt that spun back into the net for an own goal.
Despite needing overtime before scoring, Oswego dominated the contest statistically. The Lakers outshot Canton 34-6 overall and 14-1 in chances that were on-goal. Oswego also had four-more corner kicks than the Kangaroos (9-5).
Freshman
Evan Bogucki earned the victory in net for the Lakers, making one stop to improve to 2-2 on the year.
Oswego will return to the pitch for one more nonconference tune-up before SUNYAC play at 4 p.m. on Friday when it heads to St. Lawrence University.
