CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to the St. Lawrence Saints on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers fall a game under .500 at 3-4 and St. Lawrence stays unscathed, improving to 5-0.
Oswego, as has proven to be usual, came out of the gates with the higher energy in this contest.
Jason Siracuse tallied the first shot of the game in the fourth minute, but unfortunately it sailed wide. Over the course of the following 25 minutes, Oswego notched five more shots. Two of those shots by
Tim Ritch and
Caleb Asamoah needed to be saved by the opposing goaltender.
The Lakers defense played very well throughout the contest. The squad got unlucky late after a minor mishap gave the Saints a penalty shot, which they would capitalize on.
Throughout, the opposing team was stymied and unable to break through to score. St. Lawrence, which averaged 17.5 shots-per-game through its first four contests was held to just 10 attempts on the day. In fact, Oswego tallied one more shot.
Evan Bogucki started in goal and played strong, rejecting five shots on the afternoon.
The Lakers will return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 23 when they travel to New Paltz for a game beginning at 3 p.m.
