OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team tied with the St. Lawrence Saints, 1-1, after 110 minutes of play on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers record is now 3-1-2 and the Saints record stands at 4-0-2.
Hanging on by a thread with less than a minute remaining on the clock, Oswego struck to even up the game where it would remain and end in a draw. The goal, scored in the 90
th minute of the contest, was looped over the goalie by
Emma Geyer.
The junior received the ball from
Nicole Perniciaro on a beautiful volley, dribbled with it inside the box long enough to force the goalie to make an approach, and then lofted it out of her reach. It was her second goal of the season.
Oswego's defense was quite the game changer throughout most of the contest, especially during the first half and the second overtime periods. It allowed just two shots in the first half and surrendered none in the latter period.
The Lakers also managed three more shots overall and the same number more of shots-on-goal.
Sarah Grupp tallied two of said shots, meanwhile
Alexa Restante and Perniciaro also added one.
Melissa Siegfried started in goal for Oswego and played all 110 minutes, collecting three saves.
Women's soccer will have the week off of competition before returning for the start conference play. The Lakers will go to battle with SUNYAC foes New Paltz and Oneonta, beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. and continuing on Saturday at 1 p.m.
