Volleyball Splits on Final Day of Stevens Classic

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Oswego State volleyball went to 7-5 on the year by splitting two matches on the final day of the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks Classic on Saturday. Oswego opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Arcadia University before dropping a straight-sets tilt to New York University.

Oswego 3, Arcadia 1 (25-20, 25-13, 21-25, 25-22):

In its first matchup, the Lakers used a 6-0 run to open the first set and a 10-1 spurt to start the second set to set the tone on the way to a 2-0 set advantage. Arcadia was able to steal the third set before Oswego closed the door with a 25-22 victory in the fourth.

Alison Berger was in impressive form during the tilt, serving up six aces over the four sets. Seniors Lauren Edwards (3) and Lindsey Champitto (2) helped in the service area, combining for five aces. The two also shared setting duty, with Edwards amassing 14 and Champitto totaling 15. Edwards and Champitto each had nine digs in the contest, second to only libero Jessica Long's 11.

Sophomore Alison Sullivan and senior Megan Russell finished with four apiece, while Russell's classmate Meaghan Roefs added three.

On offense, Emma Moriarty paced the way with nine kills, followed by Ariel Murawski's eight and Russell's seven.

NYU 3, Oswego 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17):

Murawski led the kill department in the nightcap with nine, while Russell (7) and Moriarty (3) paired for 10. Edwards successfully set-up 14 kills for the Laker hitters, with Champitto (8) and Long (2) adding 10. The passing was dispersed evenly between Moriarty and Long, who both finished with seven. Isabella Winklestine chipped in six digs in the effort.

Oswego returns to the court at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to Cazenovia College for a nonconference battle with the Wildcats.
