CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team defeated the host Cazenovia College Wildcats in straight sets, 3-0, on Tuesday evening. Oswego improves to 8-5 whereas Cazenovia falls to 0-9 on the season.
The Lakers jumped out to a fast start in the contest, taking the first set 25-9.
Emma Moriarty was a force at the net, tallying five kills in the set alone. On the other hand,
Isabella Winklestine led the way on defense and from the service line. The junior blasted three aces and collected five digs.
Oswego played comfortably and moved the ball around plenty in the following sets. The Lakers took the second set 25-17 on the back of
Sarah Massie's six kills; she would total eight in the match. In the third set, Cazenovia made it competitive, but Oswego held steady and eventually took it 25-22.
Lindsay Champitto (11),
Julia Flohr (8) and
Lauren Edwards (7) split the assist duties throughout the three sets.
The Lakers had help from Flohr (6) as well as
Rina Qelaj (7) and
Ariana Wright (4) on defense. The trio combined to tally 17 digs on the evening.
Volleyball will return to action this weekend with SUNYAC Pool Play at Potsdam for the first conference action of the season. The team's first match will be at 5 p.m. on Friday against Plattsburgh.
