OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team suffered its first conference loss of the season 2-0 to Oneonta on Saturday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field. With the loss, Oswego goes to 4-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the SUNYAC while the Red Dragons improve to 3-3-3, 1-1-0.
Senior
Nicole Perniciaro took the Lakers' lone shot-on-goal in the tilt, coming later in the opening half. After Oneonta got on the board in the 16th minute, Perniciaro tried to tally the equalizer at 34:30. Oneonta's goalie, Emilie Mull, was able to make the stop, however, preserving the Red Dragon's one-goal margin. Oswego had another chance a few minutes later off the foot of
Chloe Lonergan from the middle of the box, but the shot sailed just over the crossbar.
The contest remained 2-0 until inside of the final two minutes, when the Red Dragons were able to notch an insurance goal and secure the victory.
Laker keeper
Melissa Siegfried had a solid day in net, despite the loss, making five saves. Those five-saves matched a season-high for the senior, which she recorded in a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Baldwin Wallace University on Sept. 10.
Oswego will return to the pitch next weekend for more conference matchups, starting at Plattsburgh for a 3 p.m. battle on Friday with the Cardinals.
