Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Avenge Loss; Record Statement Win At Naz

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 4/4 Oswego State men's ice hockey team defeated the Nazareth Golden Flyers—8-0—on Friday evening. Oswego improves to 13-3-0 on the year, while Nazareth falls to 5-10-2.

Oswego scored the only goal it would eventually need about 15 minutes into the game. Matt Galati tallied his first goal of the night and 11th of the year to give Oswego a 1-0 lead. He added a second goal later in the second period with assist from Shawn Hulshof. The latter assisted on both scores, while Joey Davies sent a helper on the first score.

Following a goal in the first, the Lakers returned to the ice looking to make a statement and seeking revenge for their loss just two weeks ago to the same squad. Oswego notched four goals in the period to earn a 5-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

Aside from Galati's second tally, goals came from Davies, Kristoffer Brun and Stephen Johnson. The first and third were of the power play variety. In the final 20 minutes, the Lakers tacked on three more goals to satisfy the urge for payback. Cameron Berry scored his second in as many games, while Andrew Barton and Kenny Neil closed the book on scoring for Oswego.

Hulshof and Mitchell Herlihey led the points count on the evening with each player dishing out three assists. In the face off department, Alex Botten won 12-of-19 and Barton earned 6-of-10.

In goal, Matt Zawadzki earned the shut out stopping 15 opposing shots. The senior made five saves apiece in each period, while clocking all 60 minutes.

Men's ice hockey returns to action at 7 p.m. on Friday for a home contest against the Brockport Golden Eagles.
