PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team battled to a tough 62-57 loss at Plattsburgh on Friday night in Memorial Hall. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the SUNYAC while the Cardinals improve to 7-6, 3-4.
Heather Hebert paced Oswego with her third double-double in five games. The senior recorded game-highs for points (18) and rebounds (15), with five of her boards coming on the offensive glass. Hebert shot 8-for-13 from the field and added a steal in the effort.
Also in double figures for Oswego were
Mary Mazzella and
Courtney Ameele. Each of the duo made four field-goals, but two extra-made free-throws gave Mazzella 13 points to Ameele's 11. Ameele collected eight rebounds for the second-most for Oswego while Mazzella had a team-best four helpers.
Junior
Zana Dillard was productive in her 13 minutes of floor time, racking up five points, five rebounds, one block and one assist.
Oswego held edges in second-chance points (16-13), fast-break points (8-2), points in the paint (34-30), blocks (10-1) and rebounds (45-40). Plattsburgh's 24 points off turnovers compared to the Lakers' 13 was enough to tilt the outcome in the wrong direction.
The Lakers will look to bounce back in the win column at 4 p.m. on Saturday when they stay in the North Country to face the Bears of Potsdam in more league action.
