Oswego Yields To New Paltz In Road Loss

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The Oswego State women's basketball team earned a split in the season series after falling at New Paltz, 71-48, on Tuesday evening. Following the loss, the Lakers are now 5-11 overall and 2-7 in the conference, while the Hawks are exactly .500 at 7-7 and 4-4.

After starting out neck-and-neck, New Paltz ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 17-11 lead. In the second, the Hawks outscored the Lakers 16-6 taking a 33-17 advantage into halftime where Oswego was unable to recover.

Courtney Ameele led the Lakers on the offensive end as the only player in double-digits with 11, nine of which came from behind the arc. Heather Hebert was the next closest in points, collecting eight. She reeled in seven boards to co-lead the team along with Zana Dillard, who also cleared seven rebounds.

Despite the final score, 12 Lakers saw court time and each player proceeded to score at least a point. Morgan Jordal and Dillard led in points off the bench, tying with six apiece. Quincey Zimmerman, Erin Gantley and Nicole SantaMaria tallied two points each, while Sarah Feminella and Morgan Wolanin each had one.

Women's basketball returns to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday for another conference contest, this time with the Cortland Red Dragons.
