Swimming & Diving Splits With Cortland

RESULTS

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's and women's swimming and diving teams split with the Cortland Red Dragons on Wednesday evening. Taking home the victory, the men earned a 155-141 advantage, while the women fell 167-133. Oswego's men improve to 5-3 and the women fall to 4-4.

Daniel Rodriguez opened the campaign for the Lakers, earning the first individual win on the men's side in the 1000-yard freestyle. The Madrid, Spain native cruised to a first-place finish in 9:55.50, just missing his personal record of 9:54.07. Later on, Rodriguez nearly missed another win in the butterfly. He came just 27-hundredths-of-a-second behind the first-place swimmer. Rodriguez rounded off his day by returning to the figurative-podium and earning first in the 500-yard free.

After finishing third in the 1000-yard free, Nicholas Weber touched the wall first in the 200-yard free, clocking a 1:50.33 split. Jacob Mullet also earned a couple of individual wins in the 100-yard and the 200-yard editions of the breaststroke.

Riley Synan collected three individual wins on the evening. She started with a 2:13.85 in the 200-yard fly, defeating the next closest athlete by over 10 seconds. In the 100-yard free, Synan out-touched the Cortland swimmer by just over a second and lastly in the 100-yard fly, she finished first in 1:00.57.

Other individual wins came from Hannah Jensen in the 50-yard free, Kayla Merrill in the 100-yard back and Emily Ross in the 200-yard breast.

On the diving boards, Meghan Maquet led the Lakers with a second-place finish in the women's 1-meter dive, scoring 207.80. She followed that with third in the 3-meter variety. For the men, Luke Snyder followed suit, earning second in the men's 3-meter and 1-meter dives.

Completing the evening, the Lakers won both 400-yard freestyle relays. The women's team of Synan, Jensen, Logan Turner and Aran Kilcoyne swam 3:53.86. For the men, Rodriguez, Mullett, Weber and Alexander Davie touched the wall in a combined 3:18.26.

Swimming and diving returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Laker Pool when they host the Geneseo Knights.
