ASTON, Pa. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team defeated Neumann University 7-0 on Friday evening, improving to 13-3 overall and 7-2 in the ECAC West. Neumann falls to 6-9-1 and 2-6-1 in the conference.
No. 8/9 Oswego scored twice in the opening frame on goals by
Jacquelin White and
Laura Thacker. White's goal in the seventh minute of the first was her 11
th of the season and for the moment gave her the team lead. The Lakers would only need one goal on the evening and after Thacker's unassisted insurance tally, they never looked back.
After a red hot start to the contest, Oswego added a couple more scores in the second before blowing the game open with three goals in the final 20 minutes.
Eryn Stewart started the middle stanza with a power play tally to push the advantage to 3-0. The freshman ended the game with a player-up goal as well, which gives her five scores on the season.
Brennan Butler,
Alexa Aramburu – her 11
th of the year – and
Victoria Blake scored the other three Lakers points to round up the scoring.
Oswego scored four power play goals – in eight chances – on the evening. Meanwhile, the penalty kill unit saw very little action, but did its job stopping the Knights on their one opportunity.
Mariah Madrigal collected her fifth shutout of the season in the win. She notched 15 saves and played all 60 minutes in goal, while raising her season save percentage to .934.
Women's ice hockey returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the backend contest of the two-game set with Neumann University.
