OSWEGO, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked Oswego women's ice hockey team fell at home to Potsdam – 2-1 – on a score with less than four minutes remaining in the final stanza.
Oswego is now 14-4 overall on the year, while they move to 8-3 in the ECAC Women's West. Potsdam improves to 11-6-1 and 7-3-1.
Through the opening stanza neither team scored, but each side chalked up their fair share of shots on goal. Oswego notched six, while the visiting Bears racked up nine. Also in the first stanza, each side saw a power play chance, but both special teams units staved off the extra-skater opportunity.
After Potsdam got on the board first with a slap shot through the left side with 10.5 seconds on the clock in the second, the Lakers bounced back.
Jacquelin White found an opportunity in the middle of the scrum and fired multiple times before getting a put back to go 11 minutes into the third. Her score through the right side was White's 12
th of the year, which ties her for the team-lead with
Alexa Aramburu.
Potsdam's Jenna Patterson scored the capitalizing goal with a squeaker just past goalie
Mariah Madrigal's outstretched glove. Madrigal recorded 19 saves in the loss.
Oswego capitalized in face offs, winning the majority (28-of-52).
Andrea Noss led the team in the category, capturing 13-of-19 chances.
Women's ice hockey will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Maxcy Ice Arena for the backend of the home-and-home series with Potsdam.
