RESULTS
POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's (116-81) and women's (116-76) swimming and diving teams both posted wins over host Potsdam on Saturday afternoon. With the victories, the men's team improves to 6-4 on the year, while the women return to .500 at 5-5.
Oswego earned a total of 22 event wins combined during the day's dual, led by victories in all of the relays. The Lakers started the contest with a strong showing 400-yard medley relays. The women's squad of
Kayla Merrill,
Emily Ross,
Riley Synan and
Hannah Jensen touched the wall in 4:17.51, nearly five seconds faster than the opponent. Oswego also earned first in the meet-closing 400-yard freestyle relay with Synan and Jensen anchoring it down alongside
Logan Turner and
Julia Lamb.
On the men's side,
Devon Foster,
Nathan Taylor,
Alex Kemper and
Nicholas Weber led it off with a 3:47.79 to win the medley relay by nearly a pool length. Alexander Davie,
Jacob Mullett,
Daniel Rodriguez and
Ryan Kreuser completed the freestyle relay by touching the wall in a top time of 3:23.29.
Jacob Mullett and Abigail Mullett began the individual events with dominating performances in the 1650-yard freestyle. A. Mullett won the women's event in a time of 20:08.13, about 34 seconds faster than her seed and 1-minute 41-seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer. J. Mullett followed up her performance with an 18:06.33, which was the top time by over two minutes.
Several relay swimmers also took to the pool in individual events and performed strongly. Turner earned a first-place finish in the women's 200-yard free, Kemper won the 50-yard free sprint, Synan touched the wall first in the 200-yard IM, Rodriguez won the 200-yard IM, Taylor earned the win in the 200-yard breaststroke and Ross won the 200-yard butterfly as well as the 200-yard breast.
James Dillon left everything in the pool, winning two individual events. He recorded the top time in the 200-yard free in 1:53.23 and then placed first in the 500-yard free with a 5:13.44 total.
On the diving platform,
Meghan Maquet and
Luke Snyder came away with wins in both editions of their respective events. Maquet scored 214.15 and 184.70 in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, respectively. Snyder continued his strong season by recording a 310.30 in the 3-meter and then following it up with a 253.05 in the 1-meter.
The Lakers will now have a few weeks off from competition before they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for the SUNYAC Championships. Events begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
