Wrestling Splits at NY/PA Duals in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Oswego State wrestling team split a pair of matches at the NY/PA Duals, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), on Saturday afternoon. Oswego opened with a convincing 33-9 victory of King's College before dropping a close 23-14 bout against Lycoming College.

In the win, 133-pound Evan Corso tied the match early at 3-3 with a 7-1 decision over James Wright. That began a streak of five-straight weight class victories for the Lakers. Next was a dominating performance in the 141-pound weight class by Max Kutseapau. Kutsepau rolled to a 16-0 technical fall over Alex Maya-Romero to make it an 8-3 Laker advantage. In the 149-pound weight class, Joey Bush nearly matched his teammates' dominance, recording a 14-1 major decision for a 12-3 Oswego lead. After earning a forfeit in the 157-pound weight class, 165-pound Jeff Lombardi closed out the streak with a 2-0 decision. Oswego's last two triumphs of the match came in similar fashion. Jordan Bushey downed his opponent by fall in just 1:28 at 184-pounds. Next was 197-pound Daniel Smith, who shaved 24 seconds off that time, pinning his counterpart in 1:04.
