BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded in the west division Oswego State women's tennis team fell to the top-seed from the east, New Paltz, 5-0 on Saturday night in a SUNYAC Championship Quarterfinal. Four matches are recorded as unfinished in order to keep the multiple-round weekend on pace. New Paltz is now 5-2 on the season while the Lakers drop to 3-9.
With the loss, Oswego will play the Blue Devils of Fredonia at 8 a.m. on Sunday in the consolation bracket. Fredonia is the second seed out of the west but fell to the west's third-seed, Cortland, in the tournament's first match.
New Paltz took the win on Saturday by capturing all three doubles competitions along with first and third singles. Senior
Alli Ullrich was able to steal two games in the first set before falling 6-0 in the second set.
Erin Vargo had won two games in each set before the sixth singles match was halted when the Hawks had enough points for the victories.
Haru Kobayashi collected the most games of any Laker on Saturday, winning three in a 6-3 loss of an unfinished match.
