Lakers Fall in High Scoring Affair at Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team was unable to pick up its first victory of the season on Sunday with a 103-90 loss to Elmira College in the host school's annual tip-off tournament consolation game. Oswego's loss drops the team record to 0-2 on the year while the Soaring Eagles picked up their first win of the campaign to move to 1-1.

Tyler Pierre was a standout for Oswego on the afternoon, recording his first double-double in a Laker jersey. The junior recorded a career-high 23 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field and 11-for-12 efficiency from the charity stripe. That offensive performance coupled with an 11 rebound outing – seven of which came on the offensive glass – gave the center the double-double. Pierre put up four double-figure rebound showings in 2016-17 but narrowly missed a double-double each time.

Also with a career-best in the point column was sophomore Tim Marshall, who recorded 15 points on 66.7% (6-for-9) shooting from the field. Joining Marshall and Pierre in double-figure scoring was Josh Ivey (13), Liam Sanborn (11) and Jamir Ferebee (11).

Helping Pierre on the boards were Sanborn and Destin Blunt, each collecting four. Sanborn aided offensively with a team-high three assists as well.

On defense, the Lakers registered six steals, with Joe Spinola pacing Oswego with two. Pierre, Blunt and Spinola each swatted one Elmira shot attempt apiece to contribute on the defensive end of the floor.

Oswego continues its five-game road trip to start the season with a 5:30 p.m. challenge on Tuesday at Clarkson University.
