OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 8/9 Oswego State women's ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 contest to the Buffalo State Bengals in ECAC West action on Saturday afternoon. Oswego falls to 15-6-1 and 9-5-1 in league action, while the Bengals improve to 16-5-1 and 11-4-0.
After Buffalo State got on the board early with a first period goal from former-Laker
Rachel Lenard, Oswego answered back in the middle regulation stanza. With the puck in the Bengal zone,
Alli Ullrich ran the play from the point. Passing the puck to
Olivia Ellis on the right side, Ellis sent it to
Andrea Noss behind the net. Noss returned it and Ellis snapped it past Bengal goalie Justine Silva's right shoulder and into the netting for the score.
In the third period, the Lakers put shot after shot on Silva, but she sent all of them away.
Jacquelin White slapped a couple of near misses, including one where she nabbed a rebound, dropped it and tried to put it back.
Mariah Madrigal played nearly the whole game in goal, aside from when the Lakers went with the extra attacker in the final 1:22. She collected 26 saves in the loss.
On faceoff duties, Oswego won 29 as opposed to Buffalo State's 22. Noss led the way with 13 wins on 19 attempts. Meanwhile, the Lakers also excelled on the penalty kill, stopping the Bengals from scoring on all three of their chances.
Women's ice hockey will continue Pink the Rink weekend action at 3 p.m. on Sunday as it hosts Buffalo State for the backend of the weekend doubleheader.
