GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team defeated host Geneseo 80-75 on Friday evening and that – paired with a 79-74 loss by Brockport to Cortland – clinches the Lakers the SUNYAC regular season title. It is the program's first regular-season championship since its perfect conference campaign in 2011-12. Oswego – which is receiving votes in the latest national D3hoops.com poll – now holds a 19-5 overall record and a 15-2 mark in the league.

With the regular-season crown comes the conference championship's No. 1 seed, earning the Lakers the right to host the semifinal and final of the SUNYAC Tournament. Those games – which will take place on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 – and seeding will be determined by the outcomes of the final regular season game and the tournament's first round.

In Friday's win over the Knights. Oswego was powered by 21-point efforts from seniors Brian Sortino and Keith Tyson. The upperclassman duo were more than one-dimensional in the tilt, as Sortino led the team with five assists while Tyson collected a Laker-best nine boards.

Five Lakers scored in double-figures in the contest. Joining Sortino and Tyson were Jamir Ferebee (10), Tyler Pierre (12) and Ian Schupp (15). That trio helped immensely on the boards, as Ferebee and Pierre each corralled seven while Schupp gathered six. Ferebee (4) and Pierre (3) aided the offensive effort as well, dishing out a combined seven assists.

Oswego will close-out the regular season at 2 p.m. on Saturday as it travels to Brockport to face the Golden Eagles.
