ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to host Elmira College in a battle of top-10 teams on Friday night. With the loss, No. 8/8 Oswego falls to 15-5-0 overall and 9-4-0 in conference play, while No. 5/5 Elmira improves to 15-2-3, 12-0-1.
Despite outshooting the fifth-ranked team in the country by 14 shots (36-22), the Soaring Eagles' goalie Kelcey Crawford was able to stop each Laker attempt. The Lakers outshot Elmira in the first period 7-4 and in the third period 22-6.
Mariah Madrigal had 18 saves in net for the Lakers, helping hold off Elmira in three of their four power-play opportunities.
Oswego's 36 attempts on goal were led by
Jacquelin White with seven shots, followed by
Alexa Aramburu with five and classmates
Brennan Butler and Alyssa Brockman with 4.
The two teams will face off again at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Elmira.
