CLERMONT. Fla. – The Oswego State softball team dropped a pair of pitcher's duels to close out its spring break trip at the PFX Athletics Spring Games on Friday afternoon. Oswego fell 2-0 to Hood College to start the day before losing a tough 1-0 extra-innings battle with New York University. With the losses, Oswego will return to New York with a 4-6 record.

HOOD 2, OSWEGO 0:

Two first inning runs for Hood was the difference as the Lakers were unable to produce a run. Jessica Roe took the loss in the circle with 4.0 innings of work. The freshman allowed two earned runs on three hits and four walks while fanning three batters. Classmate Rebecca Vilchez tossed the final 3.0 innings without surrendering a run on two hits.

At the plate, Roe tied for a game-high with two hits while Gabriella Vertuccio and Katie Heselden each had a base knock. One of Roe's two hits was an extra-base variety, smacking a double to lead-off the final inning.

NYU 1, OSWEGO 0 (8 INN):

Neither team was able to score in the allotted seven innings, forcing the game to pour into extra frames. Due to "international" rules at the collegiate level, a runner is placed on second base at the start of each inning in extras. Oswego was the away team and quickly moved the runner on second over to third via a Sarah McCullough sacrifice bunt in the top of the eighth. NYU was able to keep the runner on third, however, getting a strikeout and ground out to end the threat.

The home team elected to advance its placed record similarly to the Lakers, pushing the runner to third by way of a sacrifice bunt. In the next at-bat, NYU was able to fight a ball through the middle to score the run and steal the victory.

Roe threw 6.1 innings, scattering four hits and striking out five without allowing an earned run due to the "international" tiebreaking rule. In the fifth inning, Roe allowed a lead-off walk and Vilchez came in for the rest of the frame. The freshman earned a sacrifice bunt out and two ground outs to get out of the jam.

Oswego had three hits in the tilt, two coming from McCullough and the other from Vilchez. McCullough also stole a base in the outing.

The Lakers' first contest back in New York is a doubleheader at RIT, slated for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, March 25.
