CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team defeated the SUNY Canton Roos 17-6 on Tuesday evening. With the victory, Oswego moves back to .500 at 2-2, while the Roos remain winless on the year (0-4).
Following a Canton score just 1:26 into the contest,
Toni Laneve scored the first of her three goals during the game. The other two would come at 17:15 in the first half and 22:07 of the second half.
Canton's MaryClare Bowes answered by scoring her second goal and the team's second goal to put the Roos back on top, 2-1. Just over four minutes later,
Teresa Shattuck found the back of the net, unassisted, to tie the contest.
Shattuck continued to impress, scoring again six minutes later at the 14:31 mark. She also assisted on 10 Oswego goals in the contest, breaking the program record for helpers in a single contest. Shattuck held the previous standing of nine, which she set during the Lakers 17-2 victory over the Sage Colleges on March 9.
The sophomore's scores bookended five-straight Oswego tallies.
Kendall Appelbaum and
Gemma O'Kane each notched their first of the day, while
Toni Laneve scored her second.
Heading to half with an 8-3 lead, the Lakers duplicated the line score and more in the second half. Oswego's nine scores in the latter period were scored by: O'Kane (3),
Montana Garrett (3),
Toni Laneve (2), Appelbaum (1) and
Seanna Laneve (1).
Angela Ponto earned the win in goal, recording eight saves in 60 minutes to improve to 2-2 on the year.
Women's lacrosse will return to action on the road at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a contest against the Tigers of RIT.
