OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team scored at will in a 23-0 shutout of SUNY Poly on Monday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. With the win in their home-opener, the Lakers are now 1-1 on the year while the Wildcats suffer their first loss to fall to 1-1.
Oswego set a new program record for fewest goals allowed in a single-game, breaking the previous record of one-goal allowed that happened on two separate occasions, once in 1992 and once in 2015. It was the 10 goals in the first period, however, that dictated the contest's outcome. Oswego posted six more scores in the second quarter to lead 16-0 at the break. During the second half, the Lakers ran through several offensive sets en route to another seven tallies.
Three Lakers paved the way to victory with five-point days. Junior 
Ryan Jelen and freshman 
Kyle Bacon each scored three goals while dishing out two assists for their five points apiece. Senior captain 
Zach Anderson also had a five-point outing, scoring twice while helping on three goals for his teammates. Six different Lakers had three points on Monday, with three of those doing it with two goals and an assist (
Mark Niechcial, 
Jake Piccininni and 
Jarrod Wilkom) while 
Joseph DeLucia scored all three of his points. The remaining two Lakers with three points – 
Tyler Nason and 
Tim Schof – each had a goal and two helpers. Freshman 
Brody Urban rounded out the group of multiple-point scorers, having a balance one goal and one assist day for two points.
Also in the point column were a trio of freshmen – 
Dan Doolan, 
Mark McCabe and 
Eric Kiel – each finishing with one goal.
As a team, Oswego collected 49 ground balls to Poly's 11. Of those 49, 15 came from 
Tim Garrett, 
Kyle O'Connor and Wilkom, splitting it evenly. DeLucia (4), 
Ben Roberts (3) and Bacon (3) combined for 10 loose ball pickups while 
Joe Noce, 
John Petrelli, Jele, Piccininni, Urban, 
Chase Izyk, 
Adam Burlew and 
Kevin Mahon each had two.
On defense, Noce (3) and Bacon (2) caused five turnovers in front of four different goalies. 
Wyatt Russo started and got the win in net, making two saves in one half of work. 
Harrison Levy made a save in 15 minutes of action while 
Brody Carter and 
Ted Nolan shared time in the final quarter. At the final horn, Nolan made a save to preserve the Laker shutout.
At the X, Oswego won all but six faceoffs in 27 attempts. O'Connor won 9-for-10, Izyk claimed 8-for-10 and 
Harrison Gardiner registered four victories in seven chances.
Oswego was also perfect on the clear against the Wildcats, converting 13 transitions from its defensive to its offensive zone in just 13 tries.
The Lakers will be back at home at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when Ithaca College visits for their next competition.
