Shattuck Sets New Assists Record in Win Over Sage

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory in 2017 with a 17-2 victory over The Sage Colleges on Thursday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. It was also Head Coach Britt Howard's first career win as the Lakers improved to 1-1 while the Gators fell to 0-2.

Teresa Shattuck led the way for Oswego on Thursday, accounting for 12 points, nine of which came on assists. The assist total for the sophomore set a new single-game record for the program, which was previously set last season by her sister Erannan Shattuck with eight against Houghton on March 19. T. Shattuck's most assists in a game prior to Thursday was seven against Potsdam during her freshman campaign. The attacker also tallied three goals on the day, bringing her point total to just two shy of the single-game program record.

Also with a career day was Gemma O'Kane, setting a career-best mark with seven points and tying a career-high with five goals. The junior's previous career-mark for points was five on five separate occasions while her five-goal game prior to Thursday came in a 13-12 upset of No. 9 Brockport on April 30, 2016.

Joining O'Kane and T. Shattuck with multiple point outings were sophomore Toni Laneve and senior Kelsey Henderson, with three apiece. Laneve's all came on goals while Henderson scored the Lakers first two tallies of the day and added an assist later.

Seanna Laneve, Kendall Appelbaum, Nicole Posinelli and Sam Wallon each had one point on the afternoon, all coming on goals.

On defense, Danielle Walked showed the way with five ground balls and three caused turnovers, both game-highs.

In goal, Angela Ponto recorded the win with three saves, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Ponto was relieved by teammate Elianna Sanchez for the final 6:21, with the freshman stopping one shot and not allowing a goal.

Oswego will now have a week to prepare for its next contest, which takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at No. 9 York College (Pa.).
