Cronin Tosses Fourth Complete Game in DH Split

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 14 Oswego State baseball team split a conference doubleheader with the Brockport Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon, dropping the first contest 5-2, before rebounding 6-1 in the backend. Oswego improves to 18-7 and 9-2 in league action, while Brockport is now 16-11 and 7-3 in the SUNYAC.

Game One: Brockport 5, Oswego 2

Following a pair of innings dominated by the pitchers to open the contest, Brockport scored single runs in the bottom half of the third and fifth innings to grab a 2-0 lead.

Oswego responded in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs. Kyle Dinges opened the frame with a single to right field and then advanced to second on an Alex Brown base knock. To better the Laker situation, Kyle Simmons reached during the next at-bat to load the bases.

Zach Kollar answered the call, singling through the left side to drive in Dinges and Brown and tie the contest at 2-2. It would not be enough though, as the host team was able to manage a couple of runs in the bottom of the seventh and then one in the eighth to put the contest away.

The pairing of Robert Donnelly and Charles Arcuri handled the hurling for Oswego in game one. Donnelly was tagged with the loss, despite tossing a quality start with just three earned over 6.1 innings and four strikeouts. Arcuri allowed a pair of runs over 1.2 frames, while ringing up one batter.

Game Two: Oswego 6, Brockport 1

After game one provided seven runs of offense, the backend of the day's doubleheader was in fact a pitcher's duel through the majority of the contest. Tim Cronin took the mound on shorter rest than usual – following Monday's complete-game effort 2-0 win – and continued to dominate. The senior hurler tossed another complete game to move to 7-0 on the year and lower his earned run average to a modest 1.99.

Oswego scored its lone run through the first six innings in the second. Mike Dellicarri led off with a double to right-center field and then proceeded to come around as Josh Hoagland slapped a two-out RBI single.

Despite not being able to get any runs across the plate throughout much of the contest, the Lakers blew open the game in the top of the seventh. Oswego scored five times with John Barnes bases-loaded single to center serving as the big hit. Back-to-back passed balls allowed for two more runners to cross home.

Brockport was able to tally a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but Cronin battled through to slam the door closed and preserve the Laker win.

Oswego and Brockport will wrap up its three-game conference set with a single nine-inning contest, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
