GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team suffered just its second setback in conference this season with a 13-4 loss at Geneseo on Tuesday afternoon. With the falter, the Lakers drop to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in SUNYAC action while the Knights improve to 6-7, 3-3.
It was a tight game for the first 15 minutes as both teams traded goals. Geneseo recorded the first tally at 28:00 but Oswego answer less than four minutes later. At 24:36,
Teresa Shattuck found
Montana Garrett for her 22nd goal of the season to even the game at 1-1. After the Knights tallied their second goal at 21:43, Shattuck was part of equalizing the contest once again. This time she did the scoring on an assist from senior
Kendall Appelbaum at 17:03. Geneseo rattled off four-straight goals over the next 11 minutes to gain control. Shattuck scored her 20th goal of the season before halftime on an extra-man situation following a Geneseo yellow card to cut the margin to three at 6-3.
The Knights opened the second stanza much like it finished the first, nothing four-consecutive goals to put the game out of reach. Oswego's lone second-half goal mimicked its first of the day as Shattuck again connected with Garrett to find the back of the net.
Danielle Walker led the defensive effort, tying the game-highs for ground balls with four and caused turnovers with three.
Seanna Laneve was second the team with two ground balls to go along with a caused turnover. Shattuck, Garrett,
Gemma O'Kane and
Angela Ponto each turned Geneseo over once as well. Ponto made 10 saves between the pipes for the Lakers.
Oswego will now head to face No. 17 Cortland at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in a league tilt.
