Men's Lacrosse Downs Canton Under The Lights

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team defeated the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 17-5 on Wednesday evening under the lights at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego improves to 6-7 on the year, while Canton falls to 3-8.

Getting off to a fast start, the Lakers scored five times in the opening period, which was nearly enough to outdo the 'Roos efforts throughout the contest. Canton actually scored two of the first three goals, but the Lakers answered and took off.

Bobby Emerson scored three times in the opening period, including on a man-up opportunity for the Lakers. Also scoring was Kyle Bacon and Jarrod Wilkom, while the latter opened the second period with his second goal of the contest.

Oswego cruised to a 9-2 lead as the teams headed into the halftime break, as Caleb Alford, Tyler Nason and Tim Schof all notched scores in the final minutes of the second.

The Lakers pulled away in the second half as Tim Garrett scored his first-two career goals in succession. Finding the net at the 10:58 mark, Garrett raced down the field, half-juked the goalie and scored. Slightly over five minutes later, the Oceanside, N.Y. native scored again to give the Lakers an 11-4 lead.

Over the final 13 minutes, the Lakers scored six more times. Zach Anderson, Dan Doolan, Schof, Alford, Nason and Bacon all added goals.

In the faceoff department, Kyle O'Connor won 10-of-11 attempts to lead the Lakers. Chase Izyk handled most of the faceoffs, winning 9-of-13 attempts.

Wyatt Russo started the contest in goal and played 45 minutes, earning the win and making six saves. Harrison Levy and Brody Carter combined to man the net for the final period and allowed just one score.

Oswego will return to the field at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for a conference contest at Cortland.
