ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 9/10 Oswego State baseball team scored six runs over the first three innings and added a seven runs late – including a six-run eighth inning – to down host University of Rochester 13-4 on Wednesday afternoon. Oswego's win in the nonconference tilt puts the squad at 25-8 on the year while the Yellowjackets drop to 7-17.
A trio of Lakers had hits in all but one of their at-bats, led by senior
Eric Hamilton. The Liverpool, N.Y. native went 4-for-5 with a run scored. Although he had one less hit,
Josh Hoagland had the most production on the night, driving in three teammates while scoring twice himself and also smashing a triple.
Zach Whelan rounded out the trio with a 2-for-3 appearance, a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
Also having a multiple-hit outing was
Eli Holton, reaching safely in two of his five at-bats. The junior also scored three times while driving in a fellow Laker.
Mike Dellicarri scored twice and collected the Lakers' other extra-base hit – a double in the first frame.
Kyle Dinges and
Matthew Deblasio finished out Oswego's 14 hits with a single apiece.
On the mound,
Bobby Zywicki moved to 3-0 on the year with an outstanding four-innings of relief. Zywicki relieved
Reston Pettit in the fourth inning with no outs and threw four, two-hit frams while striking out two Rochester batters.
Brad Wroblewski and
Brandon Schultzkie pitched the eighth and ninth frames, respectively. The pair did not allow a hit in either inning while combining to strike out three Yellowjackets.
Oswego will now host the Oneonta Red Dragons in a three-game series starting at 3 p.m. on Friday at Laker Baseball Field. The Lakers look to clinch the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC Championship with a pair of victories over the conference-foe. Saturday's doubleheader will also be senior day for the squad.
