OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's tennis team improved to 2-1 this season with a 5-4 win over Utica on Wednesday. With the loss, Utica fell to 0-3 on the season.
During doubles, Oswego edged Utica to lead 2-1.
Alli Ullrich and
Jill Travis did not allow a single point, while
Jill Burns and
Erin Vargo defeated their opponents 8-3.
Lorrayne Broach and
Bridget Bender fell to Utica in a close 8-7 match.
In singles,
Alli Ullrich quickly defeated Sara Gribanoff with a score of 6-0 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set. After falling to Utica in the next three sets,
Haru Kobayashi and
Lorrayne Broach helped Oswego get the win with two crucial defeats of Deanna DiFabio and Madeline McIlnay.
Women's tennis will be back in action when they host Oneonta at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
