AURORA, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team achieved its first win-streak of the year and moved back to .500 on the year with a 4-1 victory at Wells College on Saturday afternoon. Oswego is now 2-2 during the 2017 campaign while the Express remain winless at 0-7.
Freshman
Kathleen Little started the day off for Oswego, scoring her first collegiate goal at 17:06 off an assist from
Emily Conklin. Conklin – a junior – found Little from the top of the circle and the rookie was able to navigate a shot through traffic for a 1-0 Laker advantage.
After holding the 1-0 edge into the break, Wells was able to even the score a little less than five minutes into the second half. Oswego answered with two goals over the next 10 minutes before adding another tally at 60:30 to put the game in the win column.
The Lakes' first second half goal came from senior
Andrea Kelly, her first of the year. At 48:18,
Lacey Woite entered the scorebook with a notch off a
Kendra Walker pass. Walker was the last Laker to get on the scoreboard on Saturday, scoring her second of the year off her own rebound.
Senior
Sarita Charap played all 70 minutes in cage for Oswego, allowing just one goal while stopping seven Express shots on-goal. Charap has earned the decision in each of the Lakers' games this year, owning a 2-2 record on the season.
As a team, Oswego owned several statistical categories over Wells, including shots (31-16), shots on-goal (22-8) and penalty corners (16-3).
The Lakers will return to the field at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. for a battle with nonconference opponent Keuka College.
