CORTLAND, N.Y - The Oswego State men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled down to Cortland on Wednesday afternoon for a dual meet with the Red Dragons. The men's team defeated Cortland by a score of 156-142 while the women fell 160-126. The men stay unbeaten with a 7-0 record while the women drop to 5-2 on the season.
On the men's side,
JJ Alaniz had a big night in winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.14), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.09) and the 400-yard IM (4:23.58).Â
Alex Davie took home top finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (22.61), 100-yard freestyle (50.14) and led off the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:29.01). Also winning multiple events was
Nicholas Weber in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.33), 500-yard freestyle (5:02.89) and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Other event winners for the men were
Daniel Rodriguez in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:58.99) and
Walker Snowden in the 100-yard butterfly (54.96).
For the women,
Riley Synan cruised to a win in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.30) and led off the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:47.06).Â
Logan Turner, Brittney Colon and
Kelsey Oliverio helped the Lakers win that relay by just over five seconds. Freshman Gi Gi Hon edged teammate
Emily Ross in the 400-yard IM. Hon touched the wall with a time of 5:10.66 while Ross notched a 5:12.16.
Also swimming well for the Lakers with runner-up finishes were
Kayla Merrill in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.09), Turner in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.10) and Oliverio in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.26).
On the diving boards,
Miranda Frascatore won both the 1-meter (250 points) and 3-meter (218.35 points) events while teammate
Meghan Maquet placed second in both (216.40, 195.35) to bolster a strong Oswego showing.Â
Luke Snyder took second in both the 1-meter (248.10) and 3-meter (243.00) events on the men's side.
Both teams are back in action this Saturday at 1 p.m. as they host the Bengals of Buffalo State in a home meet.
