AURORA, N.Y. - The middle hitter pairing of Alison Sullivan and Lauren Fie were dominant on Wednesday night while combining for 18 kills and 10 blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Wells College on the road.  The win avenges a 3-1 defeat to the Express during the 2017 season and improves the all-time head-to-head result to 7-1 in the Lakers' favor.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Oswego 3, Wells 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21)
  • Location:  Schwartz Athletic Center, Wells College - Aurora, N.Y.
  • Records:  Oswego (17-12, 4-5 SUNYAC) | Wells (15-11, 8-2 NEAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers got off to a sluggish start, down 4-0 to start before some offense by seniors Ariana Wright and Sullivan evened the first set at nine apiece.
  • From there, Fie chipped in with four kills, including three down the stretch to put Oswego up 1-0.
  • Wells took leads of 12-7 and 16-9 in the second set only to see the Lakers show some grit behind kills from Sullivan and sophomore right side hitter Melissa Lussier.
  • With the score tied at 22-22, senior Alison Berger served an ace and Wells made an attacking error.  A kill from the Express made it 24-23, but a crafty free ball kill from junior Sarah Massie put the Lakers up 2-0.
  • In the third, the score was tied at 7-7 before Oswego grabbed the lead on an ace by freshman Skylar Bechard and never looked back.
  • Berger and junior Julia Flohr both notched 15 assists in the match while sophomore Emily Costa and Bechard combined for 20 digs on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Fie's seven blocks were a season high, eclipsing the six she recorded against SUNY Poly in the opening match and repeated against Clarkson in late September.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers hit the road this Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. match at SUNY Poly and then play a 2:30 p.m. game against Alfred from the Empire 8 Conference.
