Lakers Close Alumni Weekend with Win Over Bears

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team secured its first conference victory of the season over Potsdam to close-out Alumni Weekend at home on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game, Oswego held a moment of silence to remember men's soccer alumnus Brody Magro, a 2017 Oswego State graduate who passed away last weekend. The Lakers donned No. 22 jerseys during warm-ups, which was Magro's number for the final three years of his four-year collegiate career.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Oswego 1, Potsdam 0
  • Location: Laker Turf Stadium – Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records: Oswego 4-6-1 (1-4-0 SUNYAC)  |  Potsdam 4-7-1 (0-5-0 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 4th minute, Sean Ormsby released a long pass from around midfield to find Jack Van Pelt down the left sideline.
  • Van Pelt settled the ball and sent a cross into the middle of the box to Anthony Paris, who one-touched the ball past the goalie's right side and into the left corner for a tally at 3:42.
  • Oswego held possession of the ball for a significant amount of time more than the Bears.
  • The offensive control of the ball combined with solid defense and unblemished goalkeeping kept Potsdam off the board for the full 90 minutes.
  • Oswego narrowly missed a couple of opportunities to tack on an insurance goal, including an unfortunate Hassan Musa chance that bounced off the post and back into play rather than into the back of the net.
  • The Lakers owned a 19-7 advantage in shot attempts, including a one shot margin in on-goal tries (6-5).
  • Sophomore Brian Terra made five saves in his fourth-career shutout and second of the season.
WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego will remain at home for its next two games, beginning with a 4 p.m. SUNYAC matchup with Buffalo State on Friday.
