CANTON, N.Y. – After finding themselves down by as many as ten in the second half, the Oswego State Women's Basketball team took a late lead on the road but were unable to grab the victory in a 56-53 setback to SUNY Canton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers got off to a strong start with seven different players scoring in the first quarter en route to a 19-14 advantage.
- Ramatoulaye Sy led the way with a pair of 3-pointers and six points in the stanza.
- In the second quarter with the score tied at 19-19, the Lakers and 'Roos began trading buckets. Oswego got eight points from Samantha Britton and a layup from senior Sarah Feminella down the stretch to keep things level at 29-29 heading into the third.
- SUNY Canton stormed out to an 8-0 run to start the third and pushed their lead to as many as 10 points, but 3-pointers by Raiven Encarnacion, Sy and freshman Logan Castiglione closed the deficit to one at 42-41 with 2:02 remaining in the quarter.
- Sy closed the quarter with a layup on an assist from Feminella to leave the Lakers down by just a bucket at 45-43.
- The 'Roos made a quick 6-0 run in the opening two minutes of the fourth quarter to push the lead to eight.
- The Lakers countered with a pair of layups by junior Tatyana Fish, one from senior Rachael Windhausen and a pair of free throws while holding the hosts scoreless for the next six minutes to tie the game at 51-51 with just over two minutes remaining.
- Oswego grabbed their first lead of the second half when Castiglione put them up 53-52 on a layup with 1:38 left. Canton responded with a layup and a pair of free throws to go back up 56-53 with a minute to go.
- The Lakers took two shots from distance looking to tie it in the final minute, but were unable to convert and force overtime.
- Sy led the Lakers with 11 points while Britton had 10. Windhausen grabbed seven boards and chipped in with six points. Both Encarnacion and Castiglione had eight points for Oswego.

The Lakers hit the road on for another non-conference game scheduled for 1 p.m. at Wells College on January 5.
